What is Fate/EXTRA Record?
Fate/EXTRA Record is a dungeon-exploration RPG remake of the 2010 PSP classic Fate/EXTRA, developed by Meteorise with TYPE-MOON and published by Aniplex. The story takes place in a parallel world to Fate/stay night: in 2032, the Moon Cell Automaton — a supercomputer on the Moon that grants wishes — hosts a Holy Grail War inside the digital world SE.RA.PH, where 128 Masters and their Servants fight a deadly knockout tournament.
Command Card Battle
Pick up to six actions per round in a rock-paper-scissors Attack, Guard and Break loop, with deck building that rewards reading your opponent.
True Name Intel
Gather intelligence on rival Masters to uncover their Servants' True Names and secure a decisive advantage in every duel.
Dungeon Exploration
Dive into the layered digital dungeons of SE.RA.PH to gather materials, open treasure chests and strengthen your Servant between battles.
Three Servant Routes
Choose Saber, Archer or Caster — each partner changes your combat style and your story route in this Kinoko Nasu-supervised narrative.
You play as Hakuno Kishinami, a Master who wakes up with amnesia and no memory of how they entered the war. Choose Saber (Nero Claudius), Archer (Nameless) or Caster (Tamamo-no-Mae) as your partner, gather intelligence on rivals to uncover their Servants' True Names, and strengthen your bond through dungeon battles. The remake introduces a sleek reimagined art style by Wada Arco and a new highly strategic deck-building command-card battle system.

Fate/EXTRA Record FAQ
Which Servant should I pick?+
Saber (Nero) is the balanced all-rounder and the most beginner-friendly — her Imperial Privilege skill covers most situations and her Noble Phantasm Aestus Domus Aurea hits hard with a wide area. Caster (Tamamo) is support-focused with healing and debuffs, great if you like controlling the battle. Archer (Nameless) is a high-damage glass cannon that rewards precise command timing. Since each Servant locks in a different story route, many players run all three on separate playthroughs.
How does the command battle system work?+
Every round you pick up to six actions from Attack, Guard and Break in a rock-paper-scissors loop: Attack beats Break, Break beats Guard, and Guard beats Attack. You build a command deck of cards, and each card has a priority that decides when it resolves. You also spend Code Spells and items outside the normal action pool, and gathering intel on a rival unlocks their Servant's True Name for a decisive advantage.
How long is the game?+
Fate/EXTRA Record is a full-length dungeon-exploration RPG with three Servant routes. The original PSP Fate/EXTRA takes roughly 20-30 hours for a single route, and a full clear of all routes with post-game content can push toward 80+ hours. The remake adds a reimagined art style and a new strategic battle system, so expect a comparable or slightly longer single-route runtime at launch.
What is a True Name and why does it matter?+
Every Servant's True Name — such as Nero Claudius or Nameless — is their real identity, and hiding it is a core rule of the Holy Grail War. When you gather enough intelligence on a rival Master, you reveal their Servant's True Name, which lets your Servant fight with full knowledge of their abilities and history. True Name reveals give you a decisive edge and are a major strategic objective in every major duel.
Can I play all three Servants in one run?+
No — you choose Saber, Archer or Caster near the start of your playthrough, and that choice locks your combat style and story route for the entire run. The bond system deepens with your chosen Servant as you explore dungeons and win battles together. To experience all three routes and endings you need separate playthroughs, which is part of what makes Fate/EXTRA Record so replayable.
Do I need to play the original Fate/EXTRA first?+
No. Fate/EXTRA Record is a remake of the 2010 PSP game, and it is designed to be a complete experience on its own. The prologue tutorial teaches you the Master-Servant loop, the command battle grid and dungeon exploration from scratch. Veterans of the original will appreciate the reimagined art by Wada Arco and the refined battle system, while newcomers can jump straight in without any prior Fate/EXTRA knowledge.
Which platforms and languages are supported?+
Fate/EXTRA Record launches January 28, 2027 on PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam (Windows). The game supports nine languages including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese (full audio), Korean and Chinese. Digital Deluxe, Limited and Standard editions are confirmed, with the Deluxe edition adding costume sets, arranged BGM, a soundtrack and an art book.
